The position of the hotel means that the entire historic centre of Kyrenia becomes your neighbourhood. You step through a lovely stone archway for just one minute, and you are right by the fantastic crescent-shaped harbour with its famous restaurants that seemed to float over the water, and traditional gület boats. Kyrenia Castle, where visitors to the enthralling Shipwreck Museum entered are literally steps away, stands dominating the entrance to the harbour, and it takes less than five minutes to walk there. Hours can be spent walking along its walls, enjoying the views out to sea. The whole area has small artisan shops and cafes lining narrow, winding streets, with hidden bars thrown in for good measure.

Dining, too – where to begin? Harborside restaurants with great views are admirable, but so too are a series of more traditional Cypriot tavernas down dark backstreets that are all within minutes on foot. Daily basics can be obtained from small local ‘market’ shops strewn along the center of Old Town…the most modern shops including those for dry clothes a suitable distance away with a 5 to 10 minute walk from the hotel, outside the old town proper.

The immediate vicinity is very much conducive to easy walking. No need for any kind of conveyance to be able to take in the major places or sites in the town. You can walk to an Icon Museum set up in the earlier Greek Orthodox church, or merely saunter to some quiet corner for a Turkish coffee or a cold beer in a Mediterranean port town which is among the loveliest in the whole region.
